Summary

This article provides instructions for logging in to MacOs devices in computer labs using a guest account.

Body

Issue/Question

How do I login to the MacOs computers with a Guest Account in classrooms?

Environment

  • MacOs

Additional Details

Note: You’ll be signed in to a temporary account called lab-guest. This account provides standard access to the computer (no administrator privileges). You will see a notification reminding you that your work will not be saved after you log out. All files and data will be deleted when you log out, restart, or shut down the computer. This includes:

  • Files saved to the desktop or documents

  • Downloads

  • Browser history and saved data

Be sure to save your work to a USB drive, cloud storage, or email before logging out.

Resolution

To support guest and temporary users in macOS labs, we’ve introduced a new lab-guest login option.

This replaces the built-in macOS Guest account, which is no longer available.

To use a lab computer as a guest:

  • Select Local Login on the login screen

  • Enter the username: lab-guest

  • Enter the password provided by IT to the instructor or event coordinator
