Safari keeps a program cache as well as storing data from individual websites. To clear the program cache, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Clear Safari cache with a keyboard shortcut

The first, and quickest way to clear your cache is by using a keyboard shortcut: press [OPTION] + [COMMAND] + [E].

Method 2: Clear Safari cache manually

  • While Safari is running, select the first option, Safari, from the top left of your menu bar.
  • Select Preferences… or use the keyboard shortcut [CMD] + [,]
  • A pop-up window will open. Select the Advanced tab.
  • Click the checkbox at the bottom of this tab that reads Show Develop menu in the menu bar. A new item will now appear in the menu bar called Develop.

  • Whenever you want to clear your cache, click on Develop and select Empty Caches.
  • Reload the page you’re on, and you’ll be good to go.

To clear the cached website data do the following:

  • While Safari is running, select the first option, Safari, from the top left of your menu bar.
  • Select Preferences… or use the keyboard shortcut [CMD] + [,]
  • A pop-up window will open. Select the Privacy tab.
  • Click the Manage Website Data... button on this screen.

  • A window will open, depending on how large the website cache is on your computer it might take a minute or two before it displays the listing of websites.

  • Once that window is fully loaded you can either select a specific website and then click the Remove button to remove that website's data, or you can click on the Remove All button to remove all cached website data on this computer.

  • When you are finished, click the Done button at the bottom right, then close the Safari Preferences window.
