Resolution

Information on the proper use of email can be found within the Information Security and Systems Integrity Policy.  Additional information can be found below.

  • Staff can send emails 400 recipients within a 24 hour period.
  • If you need to send to more than 400 recipients on a regular basis we advise that you review the College's guidelines on bulk email to be sure all emails are meeting both college and legal requirements.
  • Bulk mailing to students and outside e-mail addresses MUST conform to the Federal CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 which REQUIRES the sender to provide recipients an opportunity to decline from receiving future messages.  If an individual has opted out from receiving unsolicited bulk  e-mail from Macomb (even if they initiated it!) and is sent another e-mail message covered by this law, then the College can be fined up to $750 per unlawful message.
  • Several departments pay to use a 3rd party service called Constant Contact to communicate to large groups of recipients.  Their information can be found here.
