How do I display the Epson Document Camera on macOS using QuickTime Player?

Environment

Resolution

To use the document camera in a macOS classroom, do the following:

  • Ensure the document camera is connected to the instructor station via USB
  • Log in to the instructor station if you have not already done so
  • Use the mediated desk controls to turn on the projector and set it to use the iMac as the projector’s input

 Note: Ensure you have hidden any sensitive documents from the Instructor Station screen before powering on the projector.

  • Power on the document camera
  • Launch the QuickTime Player app
    • You can do this easily by doing the following:
    • Press Command+Space to launch Spotlight Search
    • Begin typing “QuickTime”
    • Press return when Spotlight Search highlights QuickTime Player.app
  • Go to the File menu and select New Movie Recording
  • In the window that appears click on the small down arrow next to the red record button.
  • In the camera and microphone options pane that opens, select EPSON ELPDC21
  • Ignore the Microphone settings
  • Change the Quality to Maximum if you want.
  • Adjust the recording window size
  • Adjust the positioning of the document camera to suit your needs

Following this process should allow you to use the document camera to display items via the in-room projector.
