Basic Complexity Rules for Network Passwords

What are the requirements for a network password?

Environment

• Network Password
• Staff
• Faculty
• Students

Resolution

• Password must be at least 12 characters
• Password cannot contain the user name
• Must contain characters from three of the four following categories: 
  • Uppercase letters  
  • Lowercase letters  
  • Number (0 through 9) 
  • Non-alphanumeric characters (special characters): a space and (~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/)  
• Passwords expire after 365 days
