Windows Updates Status Icon

Issue/Question

The windows update status square has an orange dot in my system tray or an orange dot on my power button what does it mean?

Environment

• Windows 10

Resolution

This means you have updates that need to be completed. If you see this you can schedule your updates for a later date or complete them right away. 

• Select the Windows Updates status icon (square with the orange dot) from the system tray to open the Windows Updates options or select the power button and select which option you want. 

 Note: If you select the power button option (shut down or restart) the updates will happen immediately.

• Select Schedule the restart or Restart Now. 

• If you select schedule the restart you will receive the following options. Select which options work best for your schedule. We suggest that you do the update as soon as possible.
