How to Send Email from a Departmental/Shared Mailbox

I receive the following error when trying to send an email from a departmental or shared mailbox that I have full-access/send-as permissions.

You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.

Environment

  • Outlook

Resolution

When Sending an email from your departmental mailbox you must select it from the address book shown below.  If you select it from the recently used list in the From field you will receive the error above.

  • Open a new email

  • Click From button
  • Select Other E-mail Address

 Note: Even if the drop-down has the email address in you will need to select it from the address book each time you want to send from the mailbox. 

  • Then select From in the pop-up. 

  • Search and select the mailbox to send as. 
  • Click OK

  • The from field will show the mailbox you wish to send from

  • Complete the body and recipients portion of your email and select Send.
