How to Check for Updates on Windows 11 and Windows 10

How can I check for updates on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

 Note: If you are working remotely (off-campus), please connect to the Global Protect VPN before proceeding with the steps below.

Resolution

Windows 11:

  • In the lower-left corner of your screen, click the Start menu search bar and type Check for updates.

    • From the search results, select the option labeled Check for updates – System settings.

  • In the Windows Update window, click the Check for updates button in the top right corner to search for available updates.
    • Any available updates will automatically start downloading. You may need to restart your computer to complete the installation.

Windows 10:

  • In the lower-left corner of your screen, click the Start menu search bar and type Check for updates.
    • From the search results, select the option labeled Check for updates – System settings.

  • In the Windows Update window, click the Check for updates button  to search for available updates.

 

  • If any updates are available, they will begin downloading automatically. You may be prompted to restart your computer, possibly more than once. After each reboot, return to this screen to ensure your system is up to date.
