Phish Submitter Button

How do I report phishing and spam messages in my e-mail?

Environment

  • E-mail
  • Outlook
  • Outlook 365 (Web Version)

Resolution

  • The Phish Submitter button will appear in the ribbon. You will not be able to select it until you select an e-mail.

  • In the Reading Pane, select the e-mail you wish to report as phishing or spam.
  • The Phish Submitter button will turn red. Click the button.

 Note: If the Reading Pane is not enabled, follow this Microsoft Article to enable it.

  • A dialogue box will open on the right of the e-mail.
  • Select the radio box with the reason you are reporting the e-mail. Add in any additional information in the text box. If selecting Other, please indicate why in the text box. Click Next to submit the e-mail.

  • You will receive a confirmation that the message has been marked as phishing or spam.
  • Select Move to Junk.

  • The message will automatically be moved into your Junk folder.
  • You may receive a confirmation notification. If so, close out of the dialogue box.

  • A copy of all reported e-mails will be sent to the Information Security department for further analysis if necessary.

 

Where to find Phish Submitter button if not shown on ribbon

  • Select the e-mail you wish to report as phishing or spam.
  • On the Home tab, click the ellipses. A drop down should appear.
  • Click Phish Submitter to report the e-mail.

 

Location of Phish Submitter button in Outlook 365 (Web Version)

  • In the Reading Pane, select the e-mail you wish to report as phishing or spam.
  • The red hook icon for the Phish Submitter button will be in the e-mail options next to the reply button.
