Issue/Question

How do I use the equipment in the newer Hyflex classrooms?

Environment

  • Classrooms

Additional Details

Note: The Hyflex equipment should only be used if you have received proper training from the CTL.

Resolution

  • Activate the equipment by pressing the Start button on the Hy-Flex control panel.

  • Turn on both monitors at the instructor's station.

Note: By default, the desktop monitor closest to the student display is for the student's view.

  • After pressing Start, the Hyflex control panel will display two Room Modes. Choose the mode based on your needs.
    • Classroom Mode: This mode enables the use of a laptop via HDMI or wireless screenshare.
    • Hyflex Mode: Enables microphones and camera, but only with the instructors station PC.
      • Note: The touchscreen monitor can be used in either mode via the instructor station PC only. In addition, to use the touchscreen as a whiteboard in a Hyflex class you can use the whiteboards built-in to your meeting application (Zoom and Teams both have this feature available). You can also use the annotation feature in PowerPoint or other Microsoft products to write directly on your presentation, with the option to save annotations for later. For more information on how to use these features please speak with the Center for Teaching and Learning.
  • After selecting your room mode, sign in using your network credentials.

  • Upon signing into the Hyflex control panel, you will have access to various settings designed to enhance the teaching experience. The available options are:
    • PC: Displays only the content on the instructor's station.
    • Laptop HDMI: Displays content from the laptop connected to the instructor's station.
    • ScreenBeam: Displays content from a laptop or mobile device wirelessly connected to the Screenbeam.
    • Volume Slider: Adjusts the volume levels.
    • Mute: Mutes the audio.
    • Off: Turns off and signs out of Hyflex equipment (does not sign out of the PC itself).
    • Room Mode: Switches between Classroom mode and Hyflex mode.
    • Dispalys On: Turns the displays on.
    • Displays Off: Turns the displays off.
    • Video Mute: Turns the camera off.
    • Displays Controls: Allows you to power on or off individual displays.

  • After selecting the device you wish to use (PC, Laptop HDMI, or ScreenBeam), the Hyflex control panel allows you to manage your camera settings. The available camera controls are:
    • Pan/Tilt: Adjusts the camera's position vertically and horizontally.
    • Zoom: Adjusts the camera's zoom level.
    • Presets: Utilize pre-configured camera settings for optimal views. It is recommended to use these presets.
      • Preset 1: Focuses on the instructor's station.
