How to Resolve Issues with Files Not Opening in a Shared Drive

Issue/Question

Why can't I open a file or files from a shared drive? When I try, I only get a blank screen.

Environment

  • Shared Drives

Resolution

  • Microsoft Windows has a character limit of 256 characters for a file, this character limit includes folder paths as well.
    • Example: \\mcc.local\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\
  • To resolve the issue, ensure that the total folder path is shorter than 256 characters.
