Unlocking a Locked Computer

Issue/Question

When I try to log into a computer I get the error message:

The computer is locked. Only the logged on user can unlock the computer.

Environment

• Windows 7
• Windows 10
• College Owned Machine

Resolution

Method 1

• Have the user that locked the computer log in. 
• After they have logged in, they can go to the Start menu 
• Click on the Account menu

• Select Switch Account.
• Another user can now log in with their credentials.

Method 2

The computer can be manually restarted and this will clear out any users currently logged in. 

• Hold the power button down for 10 seconds or until the computer shuts down.
