How do I set up the mobile app with a verification code for Multi-Factor Authentication?

Note: These directions are typical for most users, but your experience might be slightly different. Please contact the Service Desk if you need any assistance with MFA or SSPR registration.
- Enter your password and click Sign in.
- If you are prompted to stay signed in, click No.
- Click Add method, on the Security Info page.
- Make sure the Authenticator app is selected, click Add.
- Follow the prompt to install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. If your phone asks you, allow notifications as well as access to the camera.
- Search for and install the Microsoft Authenticator app from your mobile device’s app store.
- Click Next on your laptop or desktop once the app is installed.
- Follow the prompt as directed.
- Open the app and click the + in the upper right-hand corner or click Add account.
- Select Work or school account.
- The app will automatically open your camera for the next step.
- Click Next on your laptop or desktop.
- Scan the QR code on your laptop or desktop with the app. To do this: Line up the box in the app to the QR code on the screen of your laptop or desktop, as if you were taking a picture. The app will automatically move you to the next screen, shown in the step below.
- Your Macomb Community College account will now be displayed in the app.
- Click Next on your laptop or desktop.
- A test notification will be sent to your mobile device.
- Click Approve when prompted.
- Click Next when complete.
You will be brought back to the Security Info page and a pop-up in the upper right corner will let you know you successfully added your device. You should also now see Microsoft Authenticator listed like the screenshot below.
If you have added any other MFA or SSPR methods previously, they will all be listed here.
- Select Change next to the default sign-in method to change the default sign-in method to code instead of notification.
- Select Authenticator app or hardware token – code from the drop-down menu.
- Click Confirm.
- You will be brought back to the Security Info page and a pop-up in the upper right corner will let you know you successfully changed your default sign-in method.
