What is Self-Service Password Reset?

Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a security feature that allows you to reset your password without needing to contact the IT Service Desk. It also enables you to quickly unblock your account and continue working, anytime and anywhere.

What Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) methods are available? 

  • Alternate phone number (call only) 
    • Enter your phone number to receive an automated call when resetting your password.
    • Press the # key to complete the verification process.
  • E-mail
    • Enter a non-Macomb Community College email address to receive a verification code when resetting your password. You’ll use this one-time code to complete the verification process
  • Security questions 
    • Select five pre-defined security questions and provide answers for each. You’ll be required to answer these questions when resetting your password.

Details

 Note: These instructions apply to most users, though your experience may vary slightly. If you need assistance with MFA or SSPR registration, please reach out to the Service Desk.

  • Enter your password, then click Sign in.
  • If you are prompted to stay signed in, click No.

 

 Note: You will be given three different options. While at least two must be configured, it's recommended to set up all three. This guide will walk you through each option.

 

Register an Alternate Phone Number for Phone Calls (SSPR) 

  • On the Security Info page, click Add method.

  • Select Alternate phone from the drop-down menu, then click Add. 

 

  • Enter your phone number.
  • Click Next.

  • Answer the call on your phone. You will hear a brief automated message. 
  • Press the # key to verify your login attempt. 

  • Your phone is now registered. Click Done. 

  • Confirm Alternate phone was added.

 Note: If you have previously added any other MFA or SSPR methods, they will be displayed here as well.

 

Register an E-Mail Address

  • On the Security Info page, click Add method.

  • Select Email from the drop-down, then click Add. 

  • Enter your personal e-mail address.
  • Click Next.

 Note: This cannot be your Macomb Community College e-mail address.

  • A verification code will be sent to the designated email address.

  • Check your email for the verification code.
  • Enter the code on your laptop or desktop, then click Next. 

 

  • Confirm your email was added.

 Note: If you have previously added any other MFA or SSPR methods, they will be displayed here as well.

 

Security Questions

  • On the Security Info page, click Add method.

  • Select Security questions from the drop-down, then click Add. 

You must select and answer all five security questions from the 20 predefined options. Choose questions and answers that you can easily remember.

  • Click Done. 

  • Confirm Security questions were added. 

 Note:If you have added any other MFA or SSPR methods previously, they will all be listed here.
