What is Self-Service Password Reset?

Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a security feature that enables you to reset your password without having to contact the IT Service Desk for help. You will also be able to quickly unblock yourself and continue working no matter where you are or the time of day.

What Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) methods are available? 

  • Alternate phone number (call only) 
    • Enter your phone number to receive an automated call when resetting your password.
    • Press the # key to complete the verification process.
  • E-mail
    • Enter a non-Macomb e-mail address to have a code sent to when resetting your password. You will enter this one-time code to finish your verification.
  • Security questions 
    • Pick five pre-defined security questions and give answers for each. Answering all questions will be your challenge when resetting your password.  

Details

 Note: These directions are typical for most users, but your experience might be slightly different. Please contact the Service Desk if you need any assistance with MFA or SSPR registration. 

  • Enter your password and click Sign in.
  • If you are prompted to stay signed in, click No.

 

 Note: You will be presented with three different options. At least two must be configured, but it is recommended to set up all three. In this document, all three will be explained.

 

Register an Alternate Phone Number for Phone Calls (SSPR) 

  • Click Add method, on the Security Info page. 

  • Select Alternate phone from the drop-down, click Add. 

 

  • Enter your phone number.
  • Click Next.

  • Answer your phone when called. You will hear a brief automated message. 
  • Press the # key to verify your login attempt. 

  • Your phone is now registered. Click Done. 

  • Confirm Alternate phone was added.

 Note: If you have added any other MFA or SSPR methods previously, they will all be listed here.

 

Register an E-Mail Address

  • Click Add method, on the Security Info page. 

  • Select Email from the drop-down, click Add. 

  • Enter your e-mail address. Click Next.

 Note: This cannot be your Macomb Community College e-mail address.

  • An e-mail with a code will be sent to the designated address. 

  • Open your e-mail and look for the code. 
  • Enter the code on your laptop or desktop and click Next. 

 

  • Confirm Email was added.

If you have added any other MFA or SSPR methods previously, they will all be listed here. 

 

Security Questions

  • Click Add method, on the Security Info page. 

  • Select Security questions from the drop-down, click Add. 

You must select and answer all five security questions. You can choose between the 20 predefined questions. 
Be sure to choose questions and answers that are memorable. 

  • Click Done. 

  • Confirm Security questions were added.
